Change Your Mind

It takes a freedom to worship. It takes a freedom to lead others to Jesus.  My problem is I don’t always have that freedom.

Jesus can set you free that's for sure but you need to work to stay that way.

I can have a good few days, a great month and a good year but I will put myself back in bondage.  It’s the bondage of my thought process.
I need to be free in order to worship, not thinking about the past.  I need to be free to lead others to Jesus not worried that I’ll be hurt again or hurt someone.
I had shackled myself again like I am want to do.  It’s hard to say goodbye to a hurt. To forgive and truly mean it and to move on.

Romans 12:2 says And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

I like the way the New Living Bible Translations says it even better. “Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

Change the way you think. After all you are a new person through Christ.  That new person starts each day off with a clean slate knowing we are no longer condemned by the things of the past or knocked down by the mistakes of today.  That is Freedom.
The world tells you you aren’t good enough, the world tells you that you can’t do it.  They want you to fail so they can feel better.

You need to change your thinking if you are going to get back to a place of freedom.

How do we change our thinking?

Here are a few things that are going to help you because they help me.

Fill your mind with God’s word.  Don’t just read your Bible.  Consume it.  Think about what you read and how you can apply it.  Find a good devotion on the youversion app. You can even go through one with a friend to keep accountability. Memorize some verses to use to replace thoughts when you find your mind preoccupied with something
(Ph. 4:8)

Positive affirmations, for a long time I spent 10 minutes every morning reminding myself I am a child of God.  The place I was at was so toxic, I don’t think I could have made it without that.  Just 10 minutes focusing on who God says I am.  Here’s a hint, He thinks you are a pretty big deal. I know it sounds cheesy but it really helps.

Say thank you. This could also be count your blessings.  I have heard that phrase my whole life and seldom do I actually do it.  It’s hard to be negative when you count the positive.

Celebrate the wins.  Everyday you have small victories.  The more you recognize them and reward yourself for them mentally the better off you will be.
You avoided the temptation that usually sends you down the wrong path? Great! Thank God and celebrate that.
I made it all the way to the middleschool without losing my temper with the kids at an unholy hour.  When they close that truck door I thank God and I celebrate.

Just a few things for you to think about.

I’d love to hear how you stay free in a world looking to shackle you.

Thanks for reading
