Under Authority

Whatever church you are in, if you want it to be productive you have to get under that leaders authority.  God has placed that leader in charge of that church and given that person authority for His reasons.  Maybe we don’t agree with that decision but it wasn’t ours to make.

This is the same for different ministries within the church. Worship Band, Creative Team, the Youth Ministry or anything else. We have got to be ok with the authority of that ministry.  If not we create a toxic environment that the seeds cannot grow in.

There are a lot of verses about being under authority.  How important it is to be able to be humble and work together for the good of the Kingdom. Romans 13:1, Titus 3:1, 1 Peter 2:13-15 and many more

Most scholars agree that that Paul was the author of Hebrews and in that book he is writing to the Christian churches in Palestine.
They were having power struggles and problems with authority in general.
Paul writes in  Hebrews 13:17 “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.”

Basically to break it down Paul is saying that the leaders are making decisions on another level and feel pressure that the we (the people) don’t.  They are making these decisions to the best of their abilities but not everyone will agree with them all the time.  Most often they have discussed the issue with other leaders they trust.  No one makes a decision that effects a group of people lightly.
They are not only tasked with leading a body of believers and making hard decisions that often times we wouldn’t want to make, but they are responsible to a degree for our soul.
If their poor leadership leads someone astray then they will have to answer for that.

Thats a lot of weight.   The last thing they need is someone undermining them or sabotaging what they are trying to do because that person thinks they can do it better.

We don’t want to make it harder on them.  Let/help them lead with joy and not in dread.

We’re not going to always agree with every decision, but we have to humble ourselves sometimes enough to move forward for the greater good.

Next time this comes up take some time to examine if the problem is with a specific leader or with authority in general.

If you have been involved with multiple ministries and none of them are run the way you think they should be If you always think you could do it better. If the leader has caused you to move on. Or worse made you want to show that your way is best by undermining or sabotaging then you may need to look at yourself.

We have to ask Jesus to burn out of us the spirit of dissension.  Help rid us of self centeredness and pride.   To become less so He can become more.

If after genuinely searching ourselves if still convinced it’s not a “self issue” then we as christians talk to our leader and if necessary them and their leader.  Never just go right over someones head.  God always respects the chain of command.
We do all of this to be able to move forward and be a strong body.

Thanks for reading
